Elitism
I’m so sick of this “Obama is an elitist” bullshit. Don’t you sort of have to be in that position? You are saying “I am the absolute best person to run this country.” Fuck, I would be more upset if he wasn’t an elitist. “I’m running because I think I’ll do okay, but I am far from the best choice.” Fuck that. Do it. Be the best.
Our managers do a really thorough yearly evaluation at work. Before they do, they make us fill out the same forms about ourselves. At first I felt weird about giving myself really high scores, but you know what I realized? I do a damn good job. I love my job and so I bust my ass to do it as well as humanly possible. I am far from the best person at work, as I consider nearly everyone of my co-workers to be a mentor (seriously, these guys are genius’s), but being one of the newer guys (I’ve been there a year, most everyone else is 3+) I’m confident that I’m doing a bomb-ass job. Being around excellence makes you strive to be better. So I stopped feeling weird about it. We can all improve, but all things considered, I think I’m awesome. And you know what? I bet other people do to.
So to all you non-elitists: Step your game up. Put down your insecurities. Bust your ass and be the best. Stop using my competitive drive as an excuse. This is the jungle and only the strong survive.
To my elitist brethren: Don’t be afraid of being outed for what you are. If someone isn’t as good as you in a particular area and they are encroaching on your territory, show them why you are the best. Bragging isn’t necessary. Lead by example. Show them why you are better. You are better because you reach for and try to exceed your given human potential. If they don’t have the balls or the drive to be the best they can be, straight-up: YOU ARE BETTER THAN THEM.
